THE PARTY A night of unity and impact! The Prevent Cancer Foundation hosted its 23rd annual spring gala to support the Foundation’s mission to save lives through cancer prevention and early detection. As one of the most impactful event of the year, this year’s theme for the gala was “Italy: Icon of Innovation” as the event was held under the honorary patronage of His Excellency, the Ambassador of Italy, Armando Varricchio and Mrs. Michaela Varricchio. The National Building Museum was transformed by celebrity event planner David Tutera, who also serves as a member of the Foundation’s board. The evening included dinner provided by Design Cuisine, a live performance by the band ONYX and a silent auction.
THE PEOPLE Along with His Excellency, the Ambassador of Italy, Armando Varricchio and David Tutera, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy attended the gala and was honored with the 2017 Cancer Champion Award for his work strengthening bipartisan movement towards medical research and funding for the 21st Century Cures Act and the Cancer Moonshot Initiative. Other notable guests included Senator Patrick Leahy and Senator Rand Paul.
BEST IN SHOW Guests had the opportunity to bid on popular items in the silent auction which raised over $90,000 for the Foundation which was only a portion of the $1,581,805 raised in total. On average, 84 cents of each dollar raised at the event will go directly towards the Foundation’s mission. That’s what we definitely call a night of impact!
