Bridal Sign Up

Katelyn Hubbell & Chad Broude

July 5, 2014 | Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot

Katelyn and Chad knew their wedding day was right around the corner when they met.

For most people, the Fourth of July weekend is about celebrating independence. But for Katelyn Hubbell and Chad Broude, it was about joining the two of their lives together. The medical device sales director and advertising creative director had long since met at their University of Iowa alma mater. So when Chad proposed in 2013 on a wintery rooftop at III Forks in Chicago, it threw the blushing bride-to-be for a loop. “When the doors of the elevator opened, I could see rose petals and candles everywhere, and a violinist in the corner. Chad got down on one knee—I was completely surprised!” she says. Her parents waited downstairs in the restaurant. “He had flown them in for the night… one of the best of our lives.”

As college sophomores in 2006, Katelyn and Chad were on the marriage train right off the bat. “We were only 19 or 20, and I already knew he was going to be the one,” she says. “Her parents came to visit for the weekend, and I told her mom before we even started dating that I was going to marry her,” he adds. So it was beautifully appropriate that they finally tied the knot in an old train station eight years later. The Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot, with its ornate columns, smooth marble, high-arched ceilings and chandeliers, offered the perfect setting. “All I wanted was bright, colorful flowers for summer—purples and greens against the classic gold and champagne backdrop,” says Katelyn. The soles of her Badgley Mischka heels—which got busy on the dance floor during a lively set by Michael Walters Orchestra—were embellished with the couple’s wedding date in blue rhinestones. She says her wedding planner, Maggie Kline, was really the key for pulling off a destination wedding (especially with 11 bridesmaids and 13 groomsmen!).

When the couple stole moments away and the music faded, everything fell into focus. “Toward the end, seeing all the months of planning, and all the attention and love directed at you, you remember why you’re there,” says Chad. “You just married your best friend, and look at all the people around you.”

“The wedding day flies by. Find some moments with each other throughout the day to step back and take in all of the love and support around you,” says Katelyn.
