Katherine Lorenzo-Machado met Ahmed Sirage in dental school when he passed her a note in class with a heart-shaped paper clip. Katherine was taken at the time, but that didn’t stop Ahmed from waiting patiently for his school crush. Eventually they started dating, and Katherine experienced the adrenaline rush of a lifetime when Ahmed planned a skydiving adventure for her—one with an additional surprise. “When I landed,” Katherine recalls, “Ahmed was right beside me on one knee and asked me to marry him right then and there!”

The Spanish Mediterranean-style Villa Woodbine, with its unique archways and lush greenery, set the tone for the big day. After saying “I do” under a glittering chandelier amid trees and hanging lights, the space was then transformed into an elegant garden reception complete with white orchids and lace accents. The DJ from Ubi’s Music & Lighting helped blend the couple’s Cuban and Egyptian cultures with a mix of Latin and Arabic music playing throughout the night. Guests were given goody bags of guava pastel and baklava as traditional favors to remember the evening.

“There is a lot that goes into planning a wedding, and by far the best choice I made was hiring my wedding planner,” says Katherine, who worked with Marylen Exposito Weddings for the grand affair.

The couple flew to Maui, where they enjoyed everything from snorkeling and luaus to driving ATVs and horseback riding.
