A short-lived but much beloved Oakland yakitori restaurant will be reborn in NoPa. For this new iteration, chef Tommy Cleary plans to serve his menu of binchotan-grilled chicken parts in a prix fixe format—half of a pasture-raised chicken divided into 12 individual courses, with a few non-chicken dishes mixed in.

At his first solo restaurant, Anthony Strong (Locanda) will focus on Italian-inspired dishes meant for sharing, many of them cooked to order on the grill “by the each.” There will be handmade pasta, too, as well as a full slate of cocktails.

One of the East Bay’s ritzier hotel eateries gets a revamp when the New American cuisine of the Hotel Shattuck Plaza’s previous restaurant, Five, makes way for chef Brandon Hicks’s pan-Mediterranean cooking. A rotating menu meant to represent all 22 Mediterranean countries will include a selection of mezes and tagines.
